Ramblings and the olympics

August 24, 2008

I'm always excited when the Olympics roll around, yet halfway through the event, i tire of the repetitive blabber from our network's announcers. I would have liked to seen many of the odd ball events, like team handball, and wrestling, yet we were inflicted mercilessly with gymnastics and swimming which are always viewers favorites. The opening ceremonies were eye candy from an artistic standpoint, yet still had an underlying communist theme as perfection and synchronization ruled the program. The drumming sequence alone, with a thousand drummers thumping in unison, reminded me of the old Soviet footage of soldiers in lock step during May Day. I guess I'm a bit cynical about such things, but to me the feeling of openness and a new society didn't really resonate. It seemed more like a new Ed Scheib cheap paint job, over a rusty old car. Anyway, from the art world, I'm plugging away working for Ackerman and McQueen in Oklahoma, on a campaign for Juniper Networks. I also am tweaking my greeting cards and soon should have a book compilation of my cartoons from Fishstiks. If you ahven't checked out Fishstiks, please do and let me know what you think about it. It;s a daily cartoon, and can be seen at fishtiks.com. Also, headed to Bolivia to see my brother and his wife. Politically, not a great stable country, but hey, makes it more fun to try and get aropund. Posting a piece of art from MAD Magazine. Always a hoot working with all the idiots over there on Broadway. Signing off.
